- ✓ og:description — The College of Dentistry, Kuwait University is a rapidly growing institution. Being the only Dental School in the country and the flagship of Dental Education in the Gulf, it is entrusted with an immense responsibility. It has made great strides in providing quality dental education. It was established by Amiri proclamation on May 28, 1996. The commitment of the faculty, staff and alumni has helped ensure the continuing quality and prestige of the college from its inception in 1998. The College is endowed with an International Community of Academic Staff, whose broad experiences enhance the learning experiences of our students. The College of Dentistry is affiliated to the Health Science Center (HSC), Kuwait University. The administration offices, lecture theaters, laboratories etc. are situated in the New HSC building, Jabriya. It has a sophisticated clinic, the Kuwait University Dental Center (KuDC), within the Jabriya campus which provides an apt environment for clinical teaching. The KuDC clinic is furnished with 72 individual dental units, split into two main clinics (North and South Clinic), where students provide Comprehensive Dental Care to their patients. In addition, there are a total of 10 dental units covering functions such as staff clinics, admission and emergency clinics and surgery clinics. Lectures and seminars are held in well-equipped lecture theaters and seminar rooms. The College has eight teaching and research laboratories. The teaching laboratories are equipped for a class of 40 students. A state-of-the-art library, the HSC Library, which is shared between the three colleges of the HSC, is one among the many assets of the college. The library is well equipped with textbooks, reference books as well as periodicals. Online resources are also available. On campus, students can involve themselves with a number of student activities and organizations as they work to advance their careers as future dentists. The extracurricular activities give them abundant opportunities to unwind from the stresses of professional education. We try to make sure that learning at the College of Dentistry is a memorable experience for every student, so that they become life-long learners. Institutional Goals The primary objective of the College is to prepare young dentists with the necessary knowledge and skills, through an educational program that is specific to their needs for improving the oral health of their patients. To contribute to advances in oral healthcare through research, and to encourage such collaboration at national and international levels. All resources human, technical and infrastructural are developed to remain abreast with contemporary best standards for a dental educational institution. These objectives are addressed through three interrelated components: Educational To encourage undergraduate students to take a questioning, scientific, and self-critical approach to patient care through active learning of the principles and skills that underpin competency, and to foster in them the intellectual skills required for future personal and professional development. To meet Kuwait’s needs for qualified oral healthcare providers. To educate the required numbers of scientists and educators to meet the manpower needs of the College of Dentistry and other oral healthcare educational institutions in Kuwait. To provide teaching faculty for the continuing educational programs that are run for registered dental practitioners, by organizations recognized for the purpose, e.g., KIMS. Research To identify and conduct oral healthcare research that is relevant to the needs of Kuwait and its people. To measure the levels of oral healthcare problems that affect the population, and to recommend best evidence solutions for their management. To promote participation in collaborative research activities at national and international levels. To foster an early introduction of the research ethic into undergraduate students through direct involvement in community-based research projects. Oral Healthcare To play a leading role, through cooperative efforts with other key stakeholders, in the provision of quality preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative oral healthcare services in Kuwait. To set the standards amongst the dental community in Kuwait for contemporary best practice and technologies.
